New Hyatt Hotel Opens in Downtown Florence

(, Ardie Arvidson, Reporter) FLORENCE, S.C. –Hyatt Place Florence Downtown, a five-story, 103-room hotel, opened on February 6, 2019. It is the first Hyatt-branded hotel in historic downtown Florence.

Owned by East Evans Hospitality LLC, the hotel is managed by Raines Hospitality, which manages several hotels in Florence and South Carolina. The property was developed by Springbridge Development. The hotel offers a casual atmosphere with amenities such as free Wi-Fi and 24-hour food offerings in the Gallery Kitchen. And its signature bowls of green apples that can be found throughout the hotel.

Eighteen guests were booked on the first night, said Ashton Sankuer, director of sales. She said she received nothing but positive comments from the hotel guests. She anticipated a busy time as word of the opening gets out.

Guests staying at Hyatt Place Florence Downtown can enjoy the proximity of the hotel to the arts and entertainment district downtown, the Florence Museum, Francis Marion University’s FMU Performing Arts Center, the Florence Little Theater and other activities. Guests also can enjoy shopping within walking distance of the hotel. Additionally, the hotel is just minutes from the Florence Regional Airport and Interstate 95, and it is only 10 minutes from the Florence Center and Interstate 20.

The hotel represents approximately $20 million investment in downtown.

The hotel offers spacious rooms with comfortable living space. There are two one-bedroom suites available, rooms with queen- and king-size beds. “Our rooms are bigger that the average hotel rooms,” Sankuer said. There is a Gallery Kitchen where a hot breakfast is available daily. Guests also can access the Gallery menu 24/7. A coffee bar is available day and night, and the cocktail bar is open from 10 a.m. to midnight, Sankuer said. The hotel offers meeting spaces for guests and the community, a 24-hour gym, an outdoor pool and more.

Hyatt Place Florence Downtown is under the leadership of Rogers and Sankuer. Rogers is directly responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the hotel, including overseeing the hotel’s 30 associates and ensuring guests encounter the thoughtful service for which the Hyatt Place brand is known. Sankuer is responsible for providing sales service and support to travelers and meeting planners frequenting the Florence area.
