Gately Gallery: Robert Garey Artist Talk & Reception

Robert Garey was born in Richmond Virginia in 1952. He moved with his family to Florence SC in 1959. He attended art classes at Francis Marion University from 1973-1974 studying under Steven Gately. In 1977 he moved to Charleston SC, where he kept a studio and pursued his art of drawing and painting for nine years. Garey then moved to New York in 1986, where he lived for twenty-six years. While in New York, he studied at the Art Students League and at the New York Academy of Art and obtained an MFA in painting. Along with studying and maintaining a fine art studio, Garey worked as a freelance muralist. Garey also found work painting custom signs for local businesses and working specifically for the Sotheby’s Auction House where he painted reproduction masterpieces. In 2011, Garey returned to Florence SC where he now has a studio and continues with his painting of portraits, sign painting, and mural work.  

 

The artist talk and reception will be held September 7th from  5:30-7:30 pm. Bag of Grooves will begin playing at 5:45 pm.
